Learner Support
Learning Support forms an integral part of our daily teaching and learning. We aim to support every learner in the best way possible so that they can receive the same opportunities as every other child at school.
Academic Support starts in class. The early identification of learning barriers is key to accessing the appropriate support so that the learner can reach his/her full potential. In-class support starts with one-on-one support for the learner during lessons, small group work and whole-class activities. Learners are also referred to our Homework class for one-on-one assistance with academic challenges.
Our teacher assistants work predominantly in the Foundation Phase. They help learners settle in when they progress to new grades, listen to reading groups, complete one-on-one activities with learners, take the children to extra-murals and coach sports in the afternoon. They are a valuable resource in assisting learners reach their full potential.
Learners who require further support are referred to the VICTOR Centre where a remedial specialist will assist them in developing the necessary skills to improve their learning.
As part of our commitment to preparing our students for success beyond their primary years at Kronendal Primary School, we recognize the importance of supporting their social and emotional wellbeing as well as their academic growth. Members of the VICTOR Centre and the Kronendal Cares Teams are at hand to assist learners in navigating their social and emotional challenges.
The Buddy System
Every Grade 1 learner is partnered with a Grade 7 learner who becomes their mentor for the first year of the primary school journey at Kronendal Primary School.
The Grade 7 learner softens the new learner’s landing at “big school”. Their role is to introduce the school and its functions to their Grade 1 buddy. They must check in with them regularly. A few joint activities are organised to orientate the new learners.
We believe that every child is a leader in his/her sphere of influence and Kronendal Primary School must provide the tools for them to let their light shine positively so that others may follow.
